Captain America: The First Avenger

Captain America: he’s a helluva guy! And it really is a helluva movie.
I went in expecting a fun little flick, and some pretty eye candy. I figured I wouldn’t resent spending that 18 bucks too much, that I’d probably like it just fine. In actual fact, I’d consider going again! It was better than I expected, which is a nice surprise when $18 is on the line.
Chris Evans was a delight as Captain Steve Rogers, aka Captain America – a true blue hero with a heart of gold. He’s definitely very handsome in all iterations of the uniform, and makes a great action hero. Stanley Tucci and Tommy Lee Jones were also really great in their roles of Mad (not really) Scientist Doc and taciturn Army general, and it was nice to see Sebastian Stan as the plucky sidekick best friend after years of his handsomeness being obscured by all the a-hole roles he was playing.
If I had to pick one thing not quite ringing bells for Captain America I’d say Hugo Weaving’s bad guy extraordinaire Johan Schmidt, aka Red Skull, really wasn’t all that awesome. Hugo’s generally very good at being very bad, but I just felt he wasn’t quite kicking butt as ol Red Skull – maybe phoning it in a tad?
As always with these Avenger flicks, stay till after the credits for a little bit extra something something in the form of a very mini trailer for The Avengers flick starring our fearless Captain, Iron Man, Thor, Hawkeye, the Hulk and … damn, my fangirl credentials will be taken away from me for not remembering the rest but be assured, the trailers pretty spiffy, and I’ll definitely be there to check the movie out itself when it comes out next year.
